@muddy__mike continues our Kiln Buyer’s Guide series discussing if potters need to vent their kilns.

If you have a small kiln (under 1 cubic foot) you may not need to; a cross draft from fan, and an open window will likely be enough to ensure safe operation if you’re firing nothing too volatile.

For larger kilns: ventilation is a highly recommended practice as it not only keeps your studio safe, but it even lengthens the life of your kiln, produces better glaze results, helps with cool down times, and lowers your energy consumption.
