Wood ribs claim a special role in the tool box of potters at all skill levels, providing a distinct traditional and natural feel. More practically, the rigid and lightweight structure is often found to be more comfortable and easier to grip over long throwing sessions.

Wooden ribs can have a very long life with a few good habits.

Hand wash and towel dry after use.
Contact with water is expected, just be sure to never leave it to soak.
Periodically re-oil using a beeswax finish or mineral oil.

The edges can even be sharpened with a high grit sandpaper to give it a whole new life after extensive use.
