This is the only test-sized sieve on the market that was actually designed specifically around the experience of use. We designed the product from the ground up, based on the experience of thousands of test glazes processed over the years. Sieving glazes is can be a chore, but it is an important one, and we dare say it might even be a little bit enjoyable with this sieve.
This size does not include a spatula. Spatulas will be available to purchase separately soon.
Key Features:
- 316 Stainless Steel Screen – Marine grade and resistant to salt and corrosion.
- Built-in Hanging Hole – Perfect for hanging to dry and easy storage. Can clip onto a carabiner, too!
- Side Venting – Improves liquid flow through the mesh for faster, cleaner sieving.
- Permanent Bold Mesh Size Marking – Opposing color label is printed directly into the rim—no more fading stickers or guessing games.
- Fits Common Glaze Test Containers – Securely nests into 8 oz, 16 oz disposable cups, quart and pint deli containers, HVLP sprayers, and many more!
- Straight Funnel Interior – Directs all glaze through the mesh with no waste or mess.
- Easy-Clean Joinery – Smooth transition between the PETG plastic and stainless steel mesh makes cleanup a breeze.
- Color-Coded Options – Available in a regimented color scheme that helps you clearly identify the mesh size, even from across the room!
Each mini sieve is made at Blue Bucket Tools HQ using durable, chemical-resistant PETG (the same plastic used in water bottles) and long-lasting marine grade 316 stainless steel mesh.
What Mesh Size is the right one?
Mesh size indicates the number of wires per linear inch in the screen—the higher the number, the finer the mesh. A finer mesh requires more effort to push material through but captures smaller particles. Ceramicists often select their preferred mesh size based on their specific needs. Generally, 60 Mesh suits general glaze and underglaze reconstitution, 80 Mesh is ideal for filtering out oolites and small crystals while breaking up colorants, and 100 Mesh provides the smoothest texture by breaking down the finest colorant particles, though it may also filter out some glaze, underglaze, or slip components.
This sieve comes in a color-coded scheme based on two color ways – Blue or Pink. The colors get lighter as the mesh size increases.
