What to Expect
- Wood/gas soda kiln firing using Mayco glazes
- Pit firing experience
- Live demos
- Hands-on glazing and kiln loading
- Collaborative and educational environment
What to Bring
- Up to 8 bisque-fired pieces (~ 6″ x 6″)
- Cone 10 clay required
- 2 additional bisque pieces for pit firing
- (Optional) Greenware may be dropped off at least one week early for bisque firing
Provided:
- 3 bisque pieces from Mayco for glaze workshop
- Light Breakfast/Lunch/Snacks
- Glazes
Tentative Schedule
Friday, May 29
- 10:00–10:30 AM– Light breakfast & intro
- 10:30 AM–12:00 PM– Mayco glaze presentation + demos (Todd Hickerson)
- 12:00–1:00 PM– Lunch (provided) + pit fire start
- 1:00–3:00 PM– Glazing session
- 3:00–5:00 PM– Soda Kiln loading
- 5:00 PM onward– Kiln candling (overnight preheat)
- Dinner on your own
Saturday, May 30
- 9:00 AM– Kiln stoking begins + light breakfast
- 10:00 AM–12:00 PM– Rotating sessions:
- Pit fire prep
- Carving demo with Liv Fish
- Hands-on carving practice
- 12:00–1:00 PM– Lunch (provided) Light the Pit
- 1:00–2:30 PM– Glaze techniques with Todd
- 3:00–4:30 PM– “Throwing Big” demo with Erin Cramer
- 5:00–6:00 PM– Dinner break (not provided)
- 6:00–8:00 PM– Soda firing + kiln shutdown
When will my pots be ready?
Pickup begins after Wednesday, June 3
Hours: 9 AM–5 PM (Sat: 9:30 AM–3 PM)
Shipping available ($35–$50 + waiver required)
Studio Policies
Class Cancellation:
- Cancel more than 5 days before start date of the first class – Full Refund
- Cancel within 5 days of the first class – Tuition Credit for 100% of class fee.
- Cancel after first class – Tuition Credit for 50% of class fee
- Cancel after second class – Not Refundable
- Missed classes are not refundable and cannot be made up on a later date.
Workshop Cancellation:
- Cancel more than 3 days before workshop – Full Refund
- Cancel within 3 days – Tuition Credit
