Amaco (CR) Crawls
Amaco’s (CR) Crawls glazes are formulated for Cone 5–6 firing and intentionally create a striking crawling effect that adds bold texture to ceramic surfaces. Whether applied over underglazes, Celadons, or used on their own, each firing results in distinctive surfaces with organic pulls and variations. Perfect for sculptural or decorative work, Crawls bring expressive depth and dramatic unpredictability to ceramic art.
FAQ
Apply to: Cone 04 Bisqueware
Fire to: Cone 5 – Cone 6
How many coats to apply?
Amaco’s tiles show 3, even brush coats. More coats create larger glaze dots while thinner coats produce a finer bead effect.
Please not that increased coats will produce more cracks while drying.
Are these glazes food safe?
These are considered food safe when layered over an Amaco Celadon.
Application
Due to the nature of these glazes, they can be flaky and fragile after drying. Handle pieces with care before firing.

Application Tip: Apply additional coats of Crawl glaze when the sheen has faded, but the glaze is not yet completely dry.
Thickness
The amount of glaze applied will directly influence the intensity and pattern of crawling. Medium thickness is often ideal for a balanced, controlled Crawl. Amaco recommends creating test tiles to determine your preferred number of coats.

The same applies when the Crawls are layered over another glaze.

Layer with Crawls!
Apply a Crawl glaze as a top coat over a different glaze for added depth and contrast! The crawling will reveal underlying glaze layers and add visual interest.
