Product Overview
CAUTION: Do not apply on surfaces that come in contact with food or drink. Keep
decals away from small children unless properly supervised. Lead and Cadmium may
be present in some colors.
Instructions
Immerse decal in water for 20 seconds. Slide decal from the backing
paper and position on glazed ware. Remove moisture with a soft damp cloth or decal
squeegee. Be certain wrinkles and bubbles are completely removed. Do not rub or
press after decal has dried. Allow to dry 24 hrs. Most decals fire at Cone 018-017.
Firing Instructions
Decals require slow firing. Be sure your kiln is well ventilated during the “burn-off” period approximately 1000 degrees Fahrenheit. Many users choose to keep the lid open about an inch as the temperature is gradually increasing. After kiln stops smoking and the inside shows a rosy glow the lid can be closed. When cones are down or kiln automatically shuts down, you will need to allow kiln to cool for one to two hours, lid down for the “temperature soak period.” Unload kiln once it has cooled to your room temperature. Hint: for kiln variation: you can correct an underfired piece but not an overfired piece.
Decal firing Temperature Chart
Ware Type | Cone | Info |
---|---|---|
Imported China | 017-016 | Very hard glazed surfaces require higher temperatures to allow decal to adhere to surface. |
Ceramic Ware | 018-017 | Soft clay body with soft glaze needs lower firing temperature for decals. |
Glass Items | 022 | Glass will not stand higher temps without melting so special colors are needed with lower temp of glass. |
Red Shades | 018 | Most shades of red should not be fired hotter than 018 so they will not overfire and turn grey. |
Pink Shades | 017 | Pinks may require a hotter temp to bring out true pinks shades avoiding orange tones. |
Cloisonne/Gold | 018 | Cloisonne decals with gold trim must be fired at 018 regardless of type of ware. |
Liquid bright gold, palladium, platinum | 018-017 | 018 cones suffice for ceramic and imported china wares, but with imported china, you may need to refire at cone 017 to prevent rubbing off. |
