Vent A Kiln Model 1654

The Vent-A-Kiln model 1654 is a small-format, variable-height, positive-pressure process ventilation system for electric kilns. It was designed with the amateur and studio potter in mind or anywhere a small-format electric kiln is put to use. Specifically, the model 1654 is designed to be used with kilns that have an exterior diameter or diagonal of between forty-one (41) and fifty (50) inches. Kiln shapes such as rectangular or oval may be accommodated so long as the maximum linear dimension does not exceed 50 inches.

Model 1122During the process of "firing," many chemical reactions take place within clays and glazes. There are a wide variety of organic and inorganic chemicals and minerals that expel toxic fumes when heated to very high temperatures. These fumes can collect and create an unhealthy and unsafe working environment. Additionally, electric kilns produce very significant levels of heat, which can create an unpleasantly warm working environment.

In 1983, Vent-A-Kiln recognized these two potentially hazardous side effects and produced the world's first commercially manufactured ventilation system specifically for use with electric kilns. The design incorporates a hood that can be lowered very close to the top of the kiln via an overhead pulley and counterweight system. The hood extends past the exterior dimension of the kiln so as to ensure effective coverage on top of and around it.

A 500-CFM (cubic feet per minute) blower mounted on top of the hood creates a draw on top of the kiln where heated fumes are already traveling upward. The blower ensures that the fumes are properly collected and vented. The flexible hose carries the exhaust to an externally mounted louvered exit plate.

Accessories

  - A Swinging Wall Bracket facilitates use with low overhead ceiling heights of less than eight feet, high overhead ceiling heights of over twelve feet, or where a single Vent-A-Kiln system is utilized to service two side-by-side kilns located against a wall.

- Programmable Mini Time Controller so the ventilation system may be activated and deactivated automatically around the firing process.

Programable Timer

- A fire retardant, three-panel kiln safety screen to warn others that a firing is underway. Additional panels may be added (model 11-KS1).

Safety Screen

- A negative pressure installation kit for the 500-CFM blower. This kit allows the user to place the blower at the exit point instead of on top of the hood.
