Mayco Crystalline Glaze

Engobes are a clay-based coating that are applied to greenware or bisque. They serve to protect decorative design work from imperfections in or on the raw clay surface. Engobes can be fired from cone 06 to cone 6. At cone 06, engobes will be porous and at cone 6, they will vitrify and become impervious to water. They are great for sgraffitto (carving into unfired glaze). For use in the crystalline glaze process, apply 2-3 coats to a soft fired cone 04 or fully fired cone 6 clay body.

Seeding Media reacts with Crystalline Clear to create macro-crystalline patterns.

Crystalline Clear will react with Mayco's Seeding Media to create macro-crystalline patterns. It can produce random crystalline growth without the Seeding Media, especially if applied to bare bisque. Mayco's engobes provide a protective barrier that help reduce random crystallization. Apply 3 coats of Crystalline Clear as the last application- over any Engobe or Seeding Media applications.
